Isabella's 13 months old today.

I can't believe our little munchkin is already 13 months old. She's growing up so fast. I dread the time that will come when she doesn't appear to need me or love me so uninhibitedly. Last night, I met a friend from church, Liz, at Starbucks. When I came home, as soon as Isabella spotted me, her body went up and down in excitement, you could hear it in her voice, she smiled from ear to ear, and she crawled towards me at lightning speed. Oh, how that warmed my heart. Sniff, sniff, our little girl is growing up so fast.

Isabella & Naomi's visit to the Pumpkin Patch

This morning, Katia and I took our girls to a pumpkin patch at St. Mark United Methodist Church. We put our girls in their Halloween costume. Isabella's is a ladybug costume, and Naomi's a pumpkin. It was a breezy lower '80s before we met at the Pumpkin Patch. But, once we got there, the nice weather turned fiery (well, not quite fiery for South Texas, but hot enough for Naomi and I to be lethargic). I was so sweaty that the pools of sweaty coming off my forehead were impeding my vision!

Isabella's one day shy of being 13 months old, and Naomi is just a few days shy of being 16 months old.

Isabella was totally waving at strangers for awhile, and I had to move in the direction of those people to get some pictures of her.

Katia pushed the girls in this cart, and they both seemed to love it!

I put this picture in here, not because I look fabulous, but because Isabella looks adorable. I look FAT!

Even though I purposefully looked for a sleeveless costume for Isabella (we all know how easily she gets hot), that costume was made from some sort of unbreathable synthetic material. Much more content she was in something made of cotton.

Isabella in her big girl clothes

She's sporting a skirt that she got for her birthday from the Browns (Katia, Jeff, & Naomi). Katia picked out a matching long sleeve top to go with it, but for those who are well acquainted with Isabella's ability to get hot and sweat super easily, I took it back and exchanged it for the crazy fun top she's wearing in this picture. She's wearing 18 months clothes in this picture, by the way. For any of you sweet and considerate clothing benefactors, please do NOT purchase any 12 month or smaller clothing for Isabella. She will not be able to wear those.

In the background is Marilyn, a friend we know from church.

Some of you people might be wondering why I post much more infrequently these days. Well, pick any combination of the following of reasons: Isabella moves pretty fast and loves to get into things. I'm in the midst of making seemingly countless copies of application material and mailing applications for both Troy and me for jobs for the 2008-09 academic year. I'm trying to keep up with some academic reading/writing on the weekdays. I have to prepare a Sunday school lesson every week and keep up with reading for the Wednesday night women's bible study. I'm still trying to maintain relationships with various friends. We're trying to reach out to younger couples in our church. I'm super tired. Get the picture? I'll try to post somewhat regularly, but no promises. My life's a bit hectic at the moment.

Hearing Mikhail Gorbachev speak at UTPA

Tonight, Troy, Isabella, and I went to hear Mikhail Gorbachev speak, on campus at UTPA. Doors opened at 7 pm for faculty, staff, and students. Doors opened to the general public, for any remaining seats, at 7:20. The talk was supposed to start at 7:30. We got there a bit before 7 pm, and super long line had already formed outside the Fine Arts Auditorium. While we were waiting for things to get started, Isabella was okay for a little bit in the stroller and then in Troy's arms. Not much later, she wanted me to hold her, not just in any position, but upright, belly to belly. By this time, Gorbachev started talking, and any attempts to change the situation with Isabella resulted in loud protest.

As soon as I held her in the desired position, she was happy again, waving ecstatically at strangers and bouncing violently up and down in my arms. Sadly, I heard very little of what Gorbachev did say, while we were there. And by 8:20 or so, we had to take our leave. Isabella's bedtime was fast approaching, and my back was killing me from holding her in the same position for half an hour or more.

You'd never be able to tell by the cuteness expressed in the photograph, would you?

Isabella's teeth of steel and her mischief

Isabella, well, this is her classic smile.

You may not be able to see what's going on by the glimpse of this picture. She's gripping the sippy cup with just her teeth, and she's attempting to swing it from her left to her right, over and over again. It was quite funny to watch!

Isabella was heading to one of her favorite places to stand. But, she needed it to be more exciting. So, as I watched with tremendous worry, she stepped on top of the books. Don't worry you worry wart grandparents out there, I moved her moments after taking the picture.
