A family outting at the Edinburg Municipal Park

This evening, Troy, Isabella, & I went to the Edinburg Municipal park for a spin. Perfect temperature. Nice breeze. Enjoyed our stroll.

Thought I should include some South Texas foliage or greenery.
Look at all that cacti!

Whenever I walked ahead, Troy pointed out that Isabella would bend her head really far back to see me.

I think these ducks were deciding what to do, which way to go.

Video of Isabella laughing, taken by Manda

Sunday, March 25, a bridal shower was being thrown for Christina Hulstine. At the end of the shower, Diana was holding Isabella, and I was making her laugh. Manda caught some of it on video. Enjoy and let us know what you think! Mommy making Isabella laugh.

food, baby, and today's other events

Pictures I took today:

My big bowl of goodies for breakfast - underneath: Bulgarian yogurt (made with whole milk - yay!); on top: fresh strawberries and fresh pineapples. Mmm, mmmm good. This kept me full for at most two hours.

I sat next to Isabella & Troy as I ate my breakfast.

She's always in better spirits when I'm nearby.

Except when she's tired. But, she's not tired here! She woke me up at two and at seven in the morning to nurse.

Troy worked hard, cutting up chicken breast, garlic, fresh olives, and carrots. Also in the mix are garbanzo beans (a.k.a. chickpeas). Delicious.

What else did I do today? Nursed Isabella. Ate breakfast. Entertained Isabella. Nursed her some more. Took a shower. Went to Wal-Mart (yes, I am still boycotting shopping there, in general; but I have a couple of giftcards for that place), HEB (grocery store), and Old Navy (to exchange Troy's shorts for a second time). Put away groceries. Nursed Isabella. Entertained Isabella some more. Watched the most recent episode of "Smallville" with Troy. Nursed Isabella some more. Did a couple loads of laundry. Cooked our dinner. Took out trash from various rooms. Folded some laundry. Did some blogging. Now, I'm off to do a bit of lecture preparation and I'm off to bed. Night night.

What was once lost is now found

Troy came back from his walk with the lost shoes in hand! Apparently Troy saw the dogs and followed them to a nearby lot, where the dogs had dropped our shoes off, in addition to one of our sweepers. The sweeper was too smelly and doggy smelling, according to Troy, to rescue.

STINK! One of my shoes and one of Troy's shoes have been stolen!

I noticed this morning that one of my flip flops was missing. The right foot to the shoe you see in this picture. This evening, just now, Troy was heading out for a short walk, when he noticed is right shoe was missing. We've been keeping the garage door open when we're home sometimes. Troy thinks a dog or dogs have taken them. Stink! Those flipflops were purchased in Hawaii, on our honeymoon (I know, I know, that was four and a half years ago; it's okay for those shoes to retire). Troy's shoes, however, are not so old. They're actually pretty new and not cheap; they're New Balance. Hope we're able to find the dog owners and perhaps track down the shoes.

Friday night at the Huddles

John & Manda

Seriously, every Friday night, Manda & John (Huddle) host a bible study for mainly high school and some college students. I don't qualify for either of those. But, I've been going for some time to support Manda & John in their efforts to reach to the young adults.

This couple is truly amazing. Friday nights are always at the end of the week and at the beginning of a short weekend. Oftentimes we are all exhausted by the end of the week. But, Manda & John, despite their varying and crazy schedules, open their home up to seven to twenty people. Some people come consistently. Different eclectic groups of people show up every time. Manda works hard on cleaning house, sending out reminders that the group is meeting, making a delicious meal, and other behind-the-scene work. Johnny devotes no small amount of time preparing for each meeting, reading Scripture and whatever book we're reading (we're wrapping up C.S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity" at the moment). We love, love, love Manda & Johnny.

Here are pictures I took from tonight (2007-3-16).

It's official, the Hudbuds are moving

Sad, but true. Manda & John's house is on the market. There are indeed moving to L.A. in May. This gorgeous couple is moving on to follow God's calling in California. Will miss having you guys just a few miles away.

But . . . we'll attempt to get as much of you as we can before you go!

A nice big smile for Mommy while on the tummy time mat

Troy put Isabella on her Baby Einstein tummy time mat, while I cooked us some lunch today. Ofcourse I had to get a look at our cutie, every now and again. Whenever she saw me, she smiled ever big.

People comment that by the looks of the pictures I post, it looks as if she's smiling all the time.

She does smile a lot.

But, she doesn't necessarily smile for anyone, all the time.

a sleeping babe, sleeping on her side

After nursing her a second time earlier this morning, I put her in the Pack 'n Play, and she fell asleep on her side. This is the first time I've noticed her sleeping on her side, instead of her back or belly.

a smiling Isabella

I felt kind of bad. Everytime I held Elizabeth or spoke with her, Isabella would stare (and seemd to glare) at me. I was trying to give Maribel a break. After I gave Elizabeth some attention, by taking her picture, I turned to Isabella to give her some attention, too. I love you daughter!

Elizabeth Love Pena

One of my former students, Nathan, came over to discuss Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling with Troy tonight. His wife and baby came, too, which was fantastic. I really want to be an encouragement to Maribel as much as possible. Being a new mom is so tough.

Nathan & Maribel's daughter, Elizabeth Love Pena, will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. Yay!

Introducing Elizabeth Love Pena.

Did you know that Elizabeth and Isabella are the same name? Isabella's the Spanish version of Elizabeth.

Elizabeth with her mommy, Maribel.

sweet Elizabeth.

Troy's birthday

Troy's birthday was yesterday, March 11th. We did usual Sunday stuff, went to church in the morning and in the evening. But, we also celebrated Troy's birthday. I gave Troy his birthday presents after church in the morning.

After church in the evening, I served up Troy's birthday dinner. Per his request, I made lasagna. Made ground turkey and mushroom lasagna. I laid everything in our 9x13 stone, rectangular container, so that all I had to do after we got back from church in the evening was to bake the lasagna. I asked Troy how he wanted to spend his birthday: go to the beach, me throw him a party, or what not. He wanted to get together with Manda & John. So, they came over after church in the evening, and stayed until 2:40 the next morning (this morning!). The lasagna was such a hit that none was left by the time Manda & John left.

We all had a blast hanging out together. I know that perhaps some people don't like to talk about sad events, but I want to talk about one matter in particular. The point isn't to make people sad, but to point out how much the Huddles have meant and do mean to us. We don't look forward to the time they must depart for Los Angeles, in May. That's not to say that we are staying here in South Texas. We are going our separate ways, and that saddens us tremendously. In the year we've gotten to know them, we've become pretty close. You two, Manda & John, are AWESOME people. We love, love, love you guys.

I was so happy to have them over that I couldn't believe it was so late, 2:40 AM, when they left our home. Didn't get up until 11:30 for the day. That's not to say that I didn't go to bed right away. I took a shower and did some stuff. I think it was close to 4 o'clock before I fell asleep. Isabella woke me up at 4:35 AM, 7:07 AM, and 9:53 to nurse. I finally got up at 11:10 AM.

Sorry, Manda, I didn't like the way I looked in the upper body shot, so I posted this one, too.

Yuck, don't like the way I look in this picture.
Everyone else looks nice, though.

Here we are, playing Skipbo, our second game for the evening (we played Rummikub first)

beloved John & Manda

who are these people?
