The impending arrival of the next Westcott baby

Addendum: Rhonda & John have changed baby-in-utero's name to: CASSADY (SADY) GRACE WESTCOTT.

Our friends, Rhonda & John Westcott, who departed from South Texas last June and had a baby boy - Maverick Chandler Westcott - are expecting a baby girl towards the end of July of this year. Exciting, huh? They've already decided on her name: Sadee Grace Westcott. How lovely. We're so excited for the Westcotts.

ugh on the job front

I'm feeling very low right now. Just talked with the department chair. Looks pretty dismal for us here at UTPA for the next year. Troy's position for this academic year was actually a history lecture position that was temporarily converted to a philosophy position. The history side of the department is getting that position back for next academic year. The department plans on asking for one philosophy lecturer position. Note two things about that: for one, they haven't asked for it yet; for another, it's just one position. Bummer. Working part-time really sucks big time. Part-time pay, with a PhD in hand, is only $1800 per class in a semester. Contrast that with $4000 per class in a semester, for working full-time.

Troy's optimistic about prospects here because a good friend of ours keeps encouraging us about future prospects. He doesn't mean to mislead us at all. And, he really wants us to stay. But, so far, none of what he's hoped for or predicted has come through for us for this academic year. And, prospects for the upcoming academic year look grim, too.

With a little one in our family, I'm not at all willing to fly by the seat of our pants. But what choice do we have? Signing off for now. Yikes, ugh, dread.

Happy Birthday Johnny-Cash

I took all of these pictures on Sunday, February 18, 2007, on Johnny's birthday.

Silly Daddy. And there's the birthday boy, standing next to Troy and Isabella.
I've got some better pictures of Troy, but thought we'd all enjoy a laugh.

She's contemplating at the moment,
wondering what it's like to be 32!

Manda, with one of their babies, Juicy

Amazingly, I think she was kind of comfortable in that position!

The other 'baby' in the family, Henry
Hard to get a picture of him. He kept advancing on me every time I tried to take a picture of him, so I had to work fast.

Manda, working hard to provide a meal for everyone, yummy, yummy soup.

When we had first arrived at Manda & Johnny's, she asked whether I was hungry. What kind of question is that?! I'm always hungry. Funny thing was that I had eaten at 5:30, just before evening service started. By the time we arrived at their home, it was only 8 o'clock or so, and I felt famished!

Monte and Johnny

Everyone's watching a DVD of Phil Kegey performing.

Maritza and Manda getting the cake ready.

Lighting the candles.

The tricky business of carrying a cake with flaming candles, when there's a fan spinning!

The birthday boy takes on the wonderful cake Manda made.

Ready, set, blow out the candles.

Out they went. Good job Johnny. Still have the gusto to blow out candles. Hee, hee.

Manda again working hard, this time to serve cake to everyone.

Isabella's self-proclaimed boyfriend, Johnny Cash, had a birthday today. Okay, okay, for those who don't know who that is, which is most everyone, this is Johnny of the Hudbuds. His birthday was today, on a full moon. Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww (supposed to sound like a howl).

Troy, Isabella, and I had to leave earlier than everyone else, because Isabella was getting annoyed that we were ignoring her impending bed-time. I think she's also a bit sensitive to the party-scene (what? and not have everyone's undivided attention on her? just kidding).

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

We have finished the year of the dog, and we are now in the year of the pig (or boar). For some informative reading on Lunar New Year's celebration in Taiwan, click on the link: Lunar New Year in Taiwan.

Check out Isabella's cousin, Juliet!

February 2007

Ohmygoodness, how fast these little babies change! Juliet looks so different from the last picture I saw of her. She's so cute.

Tenny and her husband, Tim, were going on a (crazy) long hike with the little one in tow. They're brave folks. I think I'm too out of shape to strap Isabella on for a long hike, let alone a hike period. Some day, some day.

Still can't believe that I haven't seen my sister, Tenny, since she was pregnant (with Juliet) and vice versa. And, we've never seen each other's babies in person. We've got to remedy that situation.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Hope everyone has a fabulous Valentine's Day. I don't think this day is reserved just for lovers; neither do I think this is the only day of the year we should be especially kind towards one another. Peace and love to you all!

We are going out and leaving Isabella with some friends tonight. Troy and I are joining Junko in seeing a musical, Rent, tonight. Going out without Isabella will be good for us, I think. She'll be in good hands, but hopefully she won't be too much of a handful for our friends.

Pictures in the Pack 'n Play and in the Take-Along Swing

Look at our little happy camper. She's in her Pack 'n Play here.

She looks so different in the Oceans Wonder Take-Along Swing than the last time I took pictures of her in it. Much bigger, she is.

Isabella in the Baby Bjorn

I won't tell you how many attempts I made to get one decent picture of Isabella in the Baby Bjorn. Hard to hold a bulky camera well and to aim well, at the same time.

People often comment how cozy she looks when she's fastened in the Baby Bjorn to me.

Troy had come home from school and was resting. I put munchkin next to Troy. Smile Isabella, smile! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

always smiling for mommy

she's constantly smiling for mommy, making mommy feel warm fuzzies inside.

Daddy's going to have to chase away those boys from our little girl!

She's just such a cutie! We love her so much.

Isabella with the bear she got for Xmas

Here's Isabella with the music-interactive bear that Grandma and Grandpa got her for Christmas. Fascinated, she is.

a mug with little munchkin's picture on it, from the huddles

When I went over to the Hudbuds' home, Manda handed me a Valentine's Day present from them. I had no inkling what the gift might be. I was tickled pink that it was a white, tall thin coffee mug, with one of Isabella's four-month pictures on it!

Manda & Johnny have very much participated in the joy of the impending and actual arrival of our little munchkin. The many gifts they have bestowed upon us are just some of the indications of such exuberance. We are so glad and blessed to have such great friends here in the Valley. We're so sad that we'll be losing them to the area in May, but, alas, we must all go where we're called to go. Hopefully, May won't be the end of our seeing each other. We love you guys!!

sad and down about being so out of shape

I had made up my mind for a little while now that I need to start doing some crunches every day. No need to be a Nazi about it or anything. But, though I weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy, I still haven't shaken this gelly belly. I know, I know, I only gave birth less than 4 and a half months ago, and it took some nine months to grow a large belly; I can expect some more time to pass before I get something less than a gelly belly. Still, I'm discouraged. Well, tonight, I did 31 crunches.

Tried doing some push-ups, not girly-style, the real deal. Only did two. In my golden days, at my max., could do 30 non-stop. A pathetic two. Somebody walk me to the gym and help me retrain my body! Please!?!

Got to run and work on writing an exam before the hours pass and tomorrow comes.

my annual exam

I went to my ob-gyn for my "annual" exam. Isabella was incredibly great during this time. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes before we were seen. Anyways the nurse told me to strip down, everything. Thought I was just getting a PAP smear, the joy of my life, NOT! I asked to make sure I had heard correctly. Yup. I did as I was told, hoping I wouldn't have to wait long, in nothing but a paper gown. Before even five minutes passed, I started leaking milk from both breasts. Don't know whether just looking at Isabella did the trick or her making all kinds of noises. My gown had two large wet spots before I caught on to what was happening.

Dr. Garza-Montalvo again asked about contraception. Um, I know this is probably standard questioning, but I felt a bit uncomfortable discussing this with her. I know she must see women who are pregnant not too long after having babies, but, seriously . . . How about abstinence or condoms?

She and her office staff want a picture of Isabella, so they can show her off. Don't have to tell a proud mommy twice!
